Sarah DiNardo. Tape Artist. from gnarly bay productions, Inc. on Vimeo.

Here is a really great short about the work of sculptor Sarah DiNardo. She is a self-proclaimed “tape artist” and her craft is rolling masking tape into varying circular patterns and size which are then collected together into intricate, complex sculpture all contained in a vintage wooden box. Her work is gorgeous and inspiring and we cannot help but wonder how much her finger tips hurt from rolling all that tape. The short was produced by Rhode Island-based production company, Gnarly Bay, and you can see a short credit list after the jump.

We could not believe this when we saw it. We thought it must be fake but it's looking like this just might be the real deal. We're not sure what we think about bacon flavored mouth wash, but it might be a fairly tasty way to start the day. We wonder if it's vegan?

We came across this really cool new experiment kicking off in London. Nick Couch of the Open Studio Club have started a project entitled, Free Desk Here, in which they have sought out studios that are open offering a free desk to recent graduates or freelancers in an effort to get some new blood into studios, inspire collaboration and generally mix things up.

There are a host of rules the graduate or freelancer has to agree to, and the studio is free to end the arrangement at any time. The idea, though, that studios can open themselves up to help those who are just starting off is a great and inspiring idea. We'd love to see something like this happen stateside. It could be inspiring for all involved.

We've been avidly following Aaron Draplin and his ongoing project of vector state posters for quite awhile now. We've had some favorites (until now South Dakota being at the top of the list) over the past year or so, but this new one for Nevada has moved directly to the top of the list.

A few of us spent more than a few summers enduring the dry heat of that dusty state during our younger years. Those were times to remember. Yet, we are drawn to this state poster for more than the dusty, old memories that tumble through our heads. It's that dramatic diagonal, sliding western edge of the state and the fantastic negative space it creates as a result. Face it, Nevada is a great looking state and now they have a quality representation to prove it.

What better way is there to mark the decade than with friends? Colby (that's the “olby” in Jolby) recently celebrated his 30th birthday. To mark the occasion, Josh (for those keeping score, that's the “Jo” in Jolby) contacted a group of friends and family and asked them to contribute to a small art book to commemorate the occasion. The results read like a who's who of the Portland design scene (Kate Bingaman-Burt, Will Bryant, Scribble Tone, Always With Honor, Meg Hunt and many more) and the result was a stellar keepsake celebrating friendship and the love of design. You can see several more pieces from the book on the Jolby weblog.

Facebook has released its newest spot showcasing Home, a new way to experience FB on your Android device. Home is more full screen immersive way to experience the popular social app, and it allows you to interact with Facebook in an “always on” method so you can continue to post / update regardless of what app you're currently using. The commercial itself is beautifully shot and definitely goes for the emotional response. It will be interesting to see if how Home turns out and how useful it will be.

The Inverted Bike Shop from Show Love on Vimeo.

We had not seen this short documentary on NY's 718 Cyclery before. The short was produced by Show Love about a year ago, and it has been gaining a lot of momentum over the past 365. With Portland having such a strong bike "presence", this is right up our alley. We love 718's method of the collaborative bike building experience and how tied into the world of technology they are. They're taking a sometimes mystifying process and completely involving the purchaser while creating a great experience.
