Diego Stocco - Duet for Leaves & Turntable from Diego Stocco on Vimeo.

Award winning composer and sound designer, Diego Stocco, just dropped this short (very short) piece documenting the results of some experiments he's been working on using a specially designed turntable and leaves. All the sounds in the film are from different leaves he has gathered, twisted or bent into assorted shapes and then used with the turntable to generate sound. This is just awesome!

Field Notes: America the Beautiful Edition from Coudal Partners on Vimeo.

Draplin and the DDC are at it again. They've just released the Spring 2013 edition of Field Notes brand notebooks. This limited edition (part of the Colors series) version has been dubbed, America the beautiful, and from first looks the imagery selected and design of the small pocket journals live up to the name. This edition was painstakingly crafted as the group worked with their printer to purposely re-create the mis-registered and dulled effects of the originals. Check out the site for a much more in-depth description of their process.

This edition might be, to us, the most “Draplin-esque” version they've done so far. Aaron's love of the classic farm notebook, the mid-western work ethic and his unswerving love of this country come shining through from the moment you see these little dandies. You can pick yourself up a set of three (which come bundled with a specially designed decal) from the Field Notes website.

LosAngeles/CreativeMornings - Joe Stewart from CreativeMornings/LosAngeles on Vimeo.

We just ran across this Creative Mornings Los Angeles segment with Joe Stewart, Partner & Global Creative Director of design firm, Huge (which has an office here in Portland). Stewart speaks on the subjects of happiness and inspiration and whether those destinations are achievable as a designer. This video weighs in at a hefty 40 minutes, so you might want to save this one for lunch time.

Jessica Hische – From Berlin With Love from Gestalten on Vimeo.

We always love watching interviews or shorts about the work of lettering phenom, Jessica Hische. Gestalten.tv recently released this short four minute interview in which Hische talks a bit about her work and gives some insight into creating the letters B-E-R-L-I-N. I think this might be the first time we've seen an interview with here where she wasn't able to sneak an F-bomb in there. She's awesome.

  • Somersby Cider and the Somersby Store

Denmark-based brewer, Somersby Cider, has taken a shot at and parodied the Apple store in their new spot. They managed to appropriate much of the modern "techie" language spoken by the in the stores and re-purposed it to work for their brew. This is brilliant. We like that each table has an actual apple on it to give a nod to their cider and to the parodied computer giant.

Here's some nice work from local designer, Lotos Chen (we love that name), for modern stationer, Ecru. We love doing product photography as there are so many variables we can control vs. exterior photography and so many we can't. These shots look great and do a fantastic job of showcasing the variety of products in the Ecru line. You can check out more of Lotos Chen's (you just want to say her name over and over) work on her portfolio site.

  • Louis Vuitton Presents Check-In, Check-Out

Louis Vuitton is back with this short, 60's inspired film for their upcoming Spring line. The look of this video is completely retro and compliments the style of the new line perfectly. The short is all about the checkered pattern featured in the collection It starts with a semi-closeup of the checked bag pattern and through a series of pullbacks (all check themed) ends with an extreme closeup of the same bag pattern. We like the short quite a bit, but we were surprised by just how "Mad Men-esque" this line feels. It would fit perfectly into the coming season.

The second product in Google's April 1 release is Gmail Blue. How do you revolutionize email while leaving it exactly the same? Make it blue. The engineers over at Google have taken email to the next technological level by making everything... blue. Just brilliant.
