  • Photographer Rä di Martino Locates and Photographs Original Star Wars Film Sets

    / Comments (0)

New York-based photographer Rä di Martino has just completed work on a project photographing the rarely seen original Tatooine sets from Star Wars. The photographs, taken in Tunisia, are fantastic and provide a great view of the wear and decay that have taken place after 35 years of abandonment. There are a few images, however, where so little wear seems to have happened that you almost expect to see a bantha or stormtrooper walk across the frame.

The most amazing part of this story is how di Martino located the sets. She utilized Google Earth satellite photos to locate the precise location, something that until now was only really known by locals. These amazing photos have been collected into a couple of photographic collections (in which she has also included photos of other Star Wars sets) entitled, “No More Stars” and “Every World’s a Stage”.

  • RESOURCE: Flat UI Colors

    / Comments (0)

We haven't done a resource share in a while (we really should do more of these), but we wanted to pass along this nifty little site / web app. With all the craziness over the rise of flat design, you may be looking for a quick place to grab some of the common, popular colors that have been making waves during the rise of this visual language.

Flat UI Colors is a small, extremely east to use web application that allows you to select and copy the primary flat colors for use in your design. What we really like about it is besides being able to copy a standard hex number, you can also copy RGB and RGBA values as well. This makes it a handy tool to quickly grab a needed value and drop it in any application you might need it in.

This useful little app is courtesy of designer / developer Ahmet Sulek from Istanbul.

Portland designer, Parker Gohrick, recently finished this fun series of travel posters highlighting West Coast travel. We are huge vector nerds and seeing these awesome posters made us smile. We'd love to have a set of these in our studio to just stare at and hope for a long weekend so we could do a little traveling ourselves.

We've featured Dan McComb's work before. He is awesome, and that's all we need to say about that. This mini-doc on the Vashon Island Coffin Company is really interesting to watch and gorgeously shot.
